Math Pentathlon

Welcome to another fun and exciting year of Math Pentathlon at Spicewood Elementary!

Mathematics Pentathlon ( is a program of interactive problem-solving games that help develop and practice math concepts and skills. This motivational and fun program promotes creative thinking by linking arithmetic reasoning with geometric/spatial and logical/scientific thinking. In addition to helping students develop active problem-solving skills, the Math Pentathlon program encourages friendly competition and reinforces good sportsmanship.
There are three divisions based on grade level with five age-appropriate games in each division. Links to brief descriptions of each of the five games in each division are provided below.
At the end of the season, students compete in a one-day Division level tournament, where each student plays all 5 games against competitors from other schools in the region.

Spicewood Elementary is not holding Math Pentathlon club meetings at this time.  The Math Pentathlon Institute is making every effort to have the 2021 Math Pentathlon Tournaments take place either in-person or in some other form.  Spicewood Elementary will reevaluate the needs and resources for their club in January 2021.

You can still have your child participate by teaching them the games at home!  Please visit the Math Pentathlon website for dates and times of the upcoming virtual workshops taught throughout the month of October by donation. In November, they will start charging $10.
